Discussion

Another brutal day is in store for the DC region to close out the work week with high temperatures likely surpassing 100 degrees along with the continuation of excessively high humidity levels. The combination of heat and humidity will likely cause heat indexes to rise to between 110 and 115 degrees during the afternoon hours. These are some of the highest temperature readings that we have seen during the last 15 years, but there is some relief coming by the time next week begins on Sunday. After one more difficult day to get through on Saturday with highs again near 100 degrees, the highs should be slightly more reasonable on Sunday in the mid 90’s and then closer to 90 degrees to begin the new work week. Thunderstorms will be rather isolated through tonight, but could become somewhat more prevalent during the weekend and any one of these storms may become quite strong with brief heavy downpours possible. After the break in the excessive heat during the 1st half of the upcoming new work week, another hot air mass may threaten us yet again late next week.
