5:30 PM | Our continuing significant rain event evolves tonight from a steady, chilly soaker into a warmer pattern with occasional showers and strong thunderstorms

Paul Dorian

The soaking rain will continue tonight across much of the Mid-Atlantic, but it will gradually evolve into more of a "convective" pattern with occasional showers and thunderstorms rather the steady, soaking rain that we've experienced for much of today. In fact, this "convective" pattern will continue tomorrow and tomorrow night across much of the Mid-Atlantic with occasional showers and thunderstorms and some of this rain will be heavy at times. There is also the threat for some severe thunderstorm activity to develop tomorrow from Philly and DC to points south and east as temperatures climb noticeably higher during the afternoon compared to the 60's of today.
