1:30 PM | Potential for 3-5 inches of snow Friday night/early Saturday

Paul Dorian

Discussion

A cold front that extends from a fast-moving low pressure system will pass through tonight and it should generate some snow shower activity here during the late evening hours that could leave a coating of snow in parts of the region. The next system to affect us on Friday night and Saturday will have more moisture to work with and recent model trends for a colder scenario have continued today. It appears as if snow will break out tomorrow night, perhaps just after midnight, and continue into Saturday morning. As a result, there is the potential for snow accumulations in the 3-5 inch range here before any potential mixing or changeover to rain actually occurs on Saturday (and that is not a certainty). A strong, cold high pressure system to our north will be the key player in this early weekend event as it should lock in the cold air which will be reluctant to give up its ground at the time the moisture arrives. Stay tuned.
