Discussion

A fast-moving system will spread some snow into the region this afternoon and evening that may begin briefly as a mix of rain and snow in Philly and areas to the S and E of the city. The snow will end later this evening across the area with accumulations of about a coating to an inch from Philly to points S and E and up to 2 inches or so in the N and W suburbs. There can be some slick spots on the roads late in the afternoon and tonight as temperatures drop to near freezing by rush hour and well below freezing overnight. High pressure builds back into the region for Thursday and Friday, but then a strong Arctic cold front will whip through the region Friday night. This front will touch off some snow shower activity late Friday night and early Saturday and there is the still the slight chance for something more significant than just snow showers this weekend. Winds will also pick up behind the front late Friday night and those strong NW winds will continue much of the weekend. The coldest weather from this next Arctic outbreak will likely occur from Sunday into Monday with temperatures spending most or all of that time below freezing.
