Discussion

Our mid-week light snow event is now over with a trace or so recorded on average in the city and a bit more on the south side of town. The next system of interest will be a strong Arctic cold front that will whip through the Mid-Atlantic region by early Saturday paving the way for a much colder air mass that will stick around through Monday. Snow showers and even a period of steadier snow will likely accompany the invasion of the Arctic air mass on Saturday with accumulations likely. The coldest part of this outbreak will likely occur on Sunday as temperatures may hold below 30 degrees throughout the day. The bitter cold will relax by Tuesday as temperatures likely climb back towards the 40's. The coldest core of this Arctic air mass will heads towards New England by late in the weekend and temperatures there can fall to twenty below zero in spots by Monday morning.
