The heat wave is over and we’ll enjoy more comfortable temperatures this week, but there will be a daily threat for showers and thunderstorms. A cold front sagged through the region on Sunday and has set up shop just to our south. As a result, waves of low pressure may ride along the front through much of the week and this will produce occasional showers and thunderstorms while high temperatures hold in the 80’s. Elsewhere, an update on the sun shows that as one big sunspot (AR1515) turns away from the Earth, another one is now turning toward our planet. AR1520, now emerging on the sun's southeastern limb, stretches more than 10 Earth diameters (127,000 km) from end-to-end and will be monitored over the next several days.
