Discussion

The combination of cold air and warm sunshine will quickly destabilize the atmosphere this morning and clear skies will give way to a buildup of billowing cumulus clouds by late morning and there is the possibility of a few showers from late morning on through the afternoon. A strong cold frontal passage on Wednesday ushered in a pattern change that will bring the Mid-Atlantic region colder-than-normal weather conditions not only for the rest of the week, but also likely for the rest of the month. Overnight lows in the 30’s in suburban locations will be the norm for the next few nights and frost is not out of the question early Friday morning and again early Saturday morning. An area of showers just to our southwest on Saturday could push just far enough to the north to generate a few showers in the local area from late Saturday into early Sunday. Looking ahead, many computer forecast models are forecasting a significant east coast storm next week in the Wednesday-to-Friday time period. One final note, yesterday's cold frontal passage generated a 71 mph wind gust at Philly Int'l Airport- the fourth highest gust ever recorded there.
