3:10 PM | Threat for severe weather continues, but not for a few hours

Paul Dorian

There is the threat for severe thunderstorm activity from the Philadelphia to New York City metropolitan regions, but not for a few hours. Very humid air has advanced northeastward today across the Mid-Atlantic with dew points as high as the mid-70's in New York City. The atmospheric dynamics are in place for potential severe weather to occur in these regions most likely between 6 and 11PM. These storms can contain heavy downpours, damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning, but not everyone will get hit. All of this weather is the result of a frontal system that will usher in noticeably drier air for the weekend. The threat for severe weather this evening is considerably lower south of the Mason/Dixon line.
