The magic number for the Phillies is now down to 16 games after last night’s shutout of the Braves by Cliff Lee. Tonight’s game is in jeopardy, however, as a corridor of moisture between here and the Gulf of Mexico will continue to deposit periods of rain here today and that threat continues for the next couple of days and this could cause renewed flooding problems. This feed of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is partly the result of the remains of Tropical Storm Lee that inundated the Gulf coastal region with excessive rainfall amounts over the weekend. Much cooler air has moved into the Mid-Atlantic for today following last night’s cold frontal passage. That front has stalled to our south and east and moisture will ride up from the South along this boundary zone right into our region. Slow improvement is likely at the end of the week as the center of Hurricane Katia likely slides by to our east off the east coast and high pressure tries to build into the region.
