Discussion

High pressure that has dominated our weather picture will continue to do so for one more day and temperatures will once again reach well into the 60’s. A cold front, however, will slide through on Thursday and this will lead to much colder air to end the work week. In fact, temperatures will struggle to escape the 40’s on Friday after tomorrow’s frontal passage, and there will be a stiff wind out of the northwest to go along with the chill. The late week cold shot will be short-lived; however, and temperatures will go on another upward swing later this weekend and into the early part of next week. As far as precipitation goes, not much is expected with the frontal passage on Thursday with less than a quarter inch likely. Elsewhere, there is lots of activity to talk about from Alaska to the Atlantic. To begin, the storm spinning north of the Bahamas is now a named tropical storm, Sean, and while it'll miss the Mid-Atlantic region, it will affect New England on Thursday. Meanwhile, heavy snow will pile up today in parts of Wisconsin, but that cold snap in the Upper Midwest will be short-lived. Finally, a powerful storm is headed towards Alaska over the next couple of days with blizzard conditions likely, and this storm could blast into the Pacific Northwest this weekend. As far as the sun is concerned, there was a coronal mass ejection (CME) late on the 7th and this could cause northern lights to be visible in parts of the US tomorrow and Friday.
