High pressure continues to hover near the east coast, but it’ll lose control of our weather tomorrow as a cold front slides through the region. This will lead to much colder air to end the work week and after the 60’s of today and the frontal passage tomorrow, temperatures on Friday will struggle to pass 50 degrees. The late week cold shot will be short-lived; however, and temperatures will go on another upward swing later this weekend and into the early part of next week. As far as precipitation goes, not much is expected with the frontal passage on Thursday with less than a quarter inch likely. Elsewhere, there is lots of important weather activity to talk about. To start, the storm spinning north of the Bahamas is now a named tropical storm, Sean, and while it'll miss the Mid-Atlantic region, it likely will affect New England on Thursday. Meanwhile, heavy snow will pile up in parts of Wisconsin over the next 24 hours or so, but that cold snap in the Upper Midwest will be short-lived. Finally, a powerful storm is headed towards Alaska over the next couple of days with blizzard conditions likely and this storm could then blast into the Pacific Northwest this weekend. As far as the sun is concerned, there was a coronal mass ejection (CME) late on the 7th and this could cause northern lights to be visible in parts of the US tomorrow and Friday.
