Discussion

A cold front will pass through the region tonight and then a fast-moving, but potent little system will ride along the front on Wednesday. This system will spread some precipitation into the region and odds favor snow in the N and W Philly suburbs, but rain can be mixed in at times from Philly south and east. Accumulations of a coating to 2 inches are possible with the higher amounts in the N and W suburbs and lesser amounts to the south and east of Philly. Slick spots could also develop in time for the evening rush hour. Looking ahead, last week we talked about a strong high pressure ridge that would develop across western North America and help to bring some of that bottled-up western Canadian cold air towards the eastern US. The first cold blast from this new pattern will occur this weekend following Friday night’s strong cold frontal passage and temperatures will likely not escape the 30’s on both weekend days.
