The expected late week active weather pattern in the Mid-Atlantic is now underway as all of the atmospheric ingrediants are coming together. Scattered showers and strong thunderstorms have formed in portions of the region this afternoon and heavy rainfall is possible over parts of the I-95 corridor during the next several hours. A more organized threat will occur from later tonight into early Saturday with numerous showers that can contain heavy rainfall and strong-to-severe thunderstorms possibly containing damaging winds and hail. This very active pattern in the Mid-Atlantic will continue right into early Saturday, but then partial clearing is possible Saturday night – perhaps just in time for the Perseid meteor shower.
