Low pressure will ride to the northeast US today and it has pulled a warm frontal system to our north which has ushered in very humid air into the Mid-Atlantic. Showers and thunderstorms can break out at just about anytime today in this excessively humid air mass as a trailing cool front approaches the region. Chances for rain will diminish on Thursday and Friday behind the frontal system, but a shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out completely on either day. Another slow-moving system will then move in from the west this weekend and this will increase our chances for showers and thunderstorms.
Elsewhere, Leslie remains a tropical storm in the central Atlantic and it will continue to slowly grind to the north over the next few days with possible intensification to hurricane status. By early next week, Leslie may very well approach the Atlantic Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, but a close call with the New England coastline is still on the table so we’ll monitor its movement over the next several days. Rough surf is likely up and down the east coast for the remainder of the week and weekend as Leslie churns away in the Atlantic. Finally, the tail end of the remains of Isaac could actually help to spawn another tropical system in the northern Gulf of Mexico over the next couple of days which would enhance rainfall along the northern Gulf coastal region.
