Discussion

High pressure is now building into the Mid-Atlantic region following the passage of a cool front late yesterday and the second half of the week looks quite nice. Temperatures will be quite pleasant today and on Thursday, but will climb to noticeably warmer levels by Friday afternoon. Looking ahead, as high pressure pushes off the east coast this weekend, more humid air will push into the Mid-Atlantic region from the southwest and the chance for a shower or thunderstorm will increase. On another note, the National Weather Service replaced the temperature sensor on Monday at Reagan National Airport (DCA) as it had often produced erroneously high temperature readings for a period of several years when compared to BWI and Dulles Airports that could not be explained away by "urban heat island" effects.

Finally, the Perseid meteor shower peaks late tonight and skies should be favorable with partly cloudy-to-mostly clear conditions. The best time to view the meteors will be between about 11pm and 5am far removed from any bright lights.
