Discussion

A moisture-laden storm will pull out of the South today and head right for the Mid-Atlantic coast by later tonight. Rain should develop here during the late afternoon hours and will then evolve into a soaking rain overnight. The rain will wind down early on Thursday as this storm heads northeastward along the New England coast providing parts of northern New England with heavy snow. Rainfall amounts in the 1.0 to 1.5 inch range are likely here between late this afternoon and early tomorrow morning. Some sun can return tomorrow afternoon behind the storm and temperatures will jump to unseasonably mild levels in the 50's. After that, an upper level low will then combine with a strong cold frontal system to generate a few rain showers here later Thursday night and, as colder air blasts into the region, there can be a changeover to snow showers towards Friday morning. There is even an outside chance at a quick coating of snow right before or during the Friday AM rush hour with the arrival of the cold air. The rest of Friday will feature strong winds, gusts up to 40 mph, and temperatures holding relatively steady during the afternoon hours in the 30’s. The Arctic chill will then stick around here right into early next week followed by a brief warmup on Tuesday.
