A nice stretch of weather will begin today and continue right through the upcoming weekend. High pressure anchored in the Northeast US will bring us plenty of sunshine each day through the weekend and temperatures will be generally close to normal for this time of year.
Elsewhere, an unprecedented early May snowstorm will occur over a wide swath of the country over the next couple of days. The southern Rockies region between Denver, Colorado and Cheyenne, Wyoming will be hit hard today with several inches of accumulating snow and then the region between Omaha, Nebraska and Minneapolis, Minnesota will likely receive several inches of snow from tonight into Thursday. While snow does occur in the month of May in many of these locations, it is somewhat rare to get this large of an area receiving this much snow this late in the season. Omaha, Nebraska has never received more than two inches of snow in the month of May and they are likely to surpass that mark by tomorrow. Des Moines, Iowa’s biggest May snow is only 1.2 inches and they also have a shot at beating that mark by Thursday. In advance of this cold shot, portions of the Upper Midwest warmed up substantially on Tuesday. Madison, Wisconsin, for example, jumped to 85 degrees and the upper 70's were reached as far east as Cleveland, Ohio where the "home run weather" app index reached a high level of 8 out of 10 by game time (this backfired on the Phillies with 7 home runs hit against them).
