5:15 PM | The transition to an early autumn preview could feature severe storms late tomorrow

Paul Dorian

Discussion

The transition to an early autumn preview may come at a price later tomorrow afternoon and evening. A strong cold front that is currently sweeping across the Midwest will plow into the Mid-Atlantic region later tomorrow and the result will likely be some heavy showers and strong-to-severe thunderstorms. This surface front is supported by a deep upper-level trough of low pressure with a strong jet streak and once this combination encounters our entrenched hot and humid air mass later tomorrow the likely result will be organized lines of heavy showers and strong thunderstorms. Winds could get up to damaging levels with these storms and an isolated tornado is not out of the question. This threat exists for all locations up and down the I-95 corridor from DC-to-Philly-to-NYC-to-Boston and will be greatest between 3 and 9PM. Much cooler and less humid weather is in store for the Mid-Atlantic behind the front on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday,
