Discussion

Yet another low pressure system will head towards the Mid-Atlantic region today, but its main effects will be on the southern Mid-Atlantic with accumulating snow likely from near DC to the Delmarva Peninsula to the South Jersey shore. The Philly and NYC metro region will be on the very northwestern edge of the storm's precipitation field from late today into early tonight. Skies will be mostly cloudy here today and temperatures will climb to the 40's by midday. Colder air then moves in this afternoon and there is a chance for some snow or flurries this evening as the storm pulls off the coast well to our south and east with little or no accumulations are expected. Meanwhile, from the DC metro region across to the Jersey Shore, there can be accumulations later today on the order of 1-3 inches with even more significant snowfall amounts expected farther south across central and southern Virginia and northern North Carolina.

Following the storm, sunshine returns on Friday, but it’ll be quite cold. That cold air mass quickly modifies over the weekend, but then much colder air – the coldest so far this season – moves in early next week.
